Systems For Absence & Lateness
At Cobden we regard good attendance as 96% and above. When attendance drops below 92% we begin our formal attendance monitoring systems. This includes communicating with parents via letters and face to face contact where possible. We employ an Educational Welfare Officer Naina Zavery who may be asked to visit homes where it has proven very difficult to make progress.
Day 1 if your child is ill or has a medical appointment then we ask you to contact school on 01509263485 from 8am on the first day of absence. If your child continues to be absent then we ask that we have a message each day. If your childs absence is cause for concern then we will ask for evidence of any medical appointments.
We do not authorise any absence for holidays or other non essential appointmets or events. A family wedding will be granted as one day or a funeral. We ask parents to fill out the Absence Request Form each time which can be requested from the main office. Once this request has been looked at (2 days) then the parent will be given a copy of the signed form. Parents can request to speak to the Headteacher about this although the decision can't be changed.
School starts at 8.50am promptly and children expected to line up with their class.
Any arrivals after the class have entered school is marked as absent and children must collect a late pass at the main office. School ends at 3.15pm and parents are expected to collect children at this time. If you are stuck in traffic or have an unusual emergency then please contact the school to warn them about holding on to the child. This must be a highly unusual and rare occurrence and not a regular pattern.
