We do love reading in year 2!

Science Week!

Our first week back after half term was Cobden Primary School's Science Week!  On Wednesday year 1 and 2 were lucky enough to enjoy an exciting workshop about space provided by Science Theatre.  We also conducted our own experiment about which biscuit is the best for dunking and were surprised to learn that Rich Tea biscuits are 'dunking champions', lasting for over 2 minutes before falling apart!  Take a look at some of the pictures of our budding scientists:

Spring 1

In the Spring term we have been learning about materials and their properties.  Our topic question is "What is a material?".  We have been conducting lots of science investigations and sorting activities about different materials and what their properties are.  We have sorted materials into different categories, looked for different materials around school and investigated whether the properties of materials change when they are heated up.

In our English lessons we have been writing reports about penguins and John Boyd Dunlop (who invented the pneumatic tyre) and have written our own versions of the Three Little Pigs

In maths we have been learning about data handling & shapes.

Investigating materials and their properties

Upcycling! Year 2 learnt about the importance of recycling and made some fantastic models from items that would normally be thrown away:

Spring 1 Maths - data collection, shape walk & shape sorting

RE: We looked at symbols and items importent to three different religions - Christianity, Islam and Judaism

PSHE: Our Jigsaw topic for Spring 1 was Dreams & Goals. The children wrote down their own goals and how to achieve them. They also designed 'Dream Birds' to look after their dreams.

Autumn 2

Light Up!

This half term our topic is 'Light Up' and we have been asking questions about how we use light and investigating whether everything burns.  So far we have learnt about the Gunpowder Plot, the Great Fire of London, Loughborough fair and how light is used in different religious festivals such as Diwali, Hannukah and Christmas.

Do you want to build a snowman? Winter is upon us and we have been making 2D and 3D snowmen. Year 2 have also done some lovely writing based on the Raymond Briggs story 'The Snowman'

We have been looking at the importance of light in different religious restivals.

Bonfire Night: While learning about the Gunpowder Plot, year 2 created some lovely bonfire night themed artwork using different techniques.

Autumn 1

Terrific Transport!

In Autumn Term 1 out topic was Transport.  We learnt about different types of transport: land, sea and air and how transport has changed over time.  We also had a go at making our own moving vehicles!

Here are some pictures from Year 2's Autumn walk to Queen's Park in October. The children collected some items of nature and used them to create some beautiful Autumn collages!

Class 6HT made some super kites. The horrible weather outside couldn't get in the way of the children testing them out!

In Year 2 we love reading. Here are some of us in Class 5TB.

In maths we explored making two digit numbers in different ways

Making amazing kites and rocky road in Class 5TB.

Children in Class 6HT created a fantastic range of vehicles. Look at the different shapes and design features. Nice work!

Transition Days, Art, DT, reading, problem solving and lots of fun!
